This story was not what I expected...at all.I liked Dani. She had a great sense of humor (even if most of the times she turned it onto herself), she was smart and an overall great character to get to know. She was a mix of confident and insecure and her journey was treat to read.
Liam was another story altogether. I liked him fine. He was funny and keep up with Dani and pushed her to believe in herself more. I had to give him points for that alone. It wasn't until the second half of the story that I finally saw glimpses of his which helped to keep me interested in the story. Thank goodness for that or this would have been a completely different review!
Dani and Liam's relationship grew from friends to lovers over the course of the story. It was slow building and sweet. I liked their rapport and how easily they related to each other.
As for the concept I have to tell you that it was different from anything I've read before in the New Adult genre. The book brings about different elements that allow the reader to ponder and understand the characters better. The story is mainly about overcoming your insecurities, pursuing your dreams and accepting yourself and others without judgement with an added romance to round it all up.

This book focusses on important social issues, that are up an coming but still not discussed widely enough. I have not read a book on Liam's secret before but this was my first thought
I so not saw this coming! That was my first reaction after Liam's big revelation. My mouth dropped open astounded by what was thrown my way. After that the title made perfect sense. Not the way I thought I would be interpreting though. Trust me it is not a bad secret, unless you are a hater. "The haters" people who hate everybody who is slightly different being gothic, gay, fat or just funny looking to them you are a target to bully.
We encounter both openminded people in this book but we also encounter the haters. Which makes this book very realistic because that is how the world is (even if we do not want it to be). To give you some advise, if you cannot be openminded, then this book will be a waste of your time. I guess this book is not for everyone, especially my so-called "haters".
Even though this book deals with a lot of social issues, above all this is love story. This book left me in an overall happy state, which is what the gorgeous cover also promises. I saw no flaws in this book, and I was totally engrossed the whole way through, this leaves only one rating option 5 stars!

Though this is the first book in the Open Door Love Story series, it can be read as a standalone.
Crossing touches on a topic that is certainly different that what we normally see in love stories. For originality, it deserves 5 stars. However, I only gave it 4 stars because the story is presented, in the end, in a neat little bow. Everything about the story happens way too easily. I truly believe that this story can (and possibly does) happen as it does for Dani and Liam, but I'm not sure it's always as easy. I think I would have preferred some more tension and conflict between Dani and Liam, even if they did get their happily ever after. I guess I would have felt it was more deserved if they struggled for it a bit more. Personal preferences aside, I did enjoy this story and I loved the original storyline.
If you're looking for a different kind of love story (and have an open mind), then Crossing certainly should be on your to-read list.
I knew from the onset that this love story would be different than the ones I am more accustomed to. I felt that it would broaden my mind and thinking; I don't know about other readers, but when I'm reading, I often wonder how I would respond or react if in a similar situation. Although I am a traditionalist, I feel that I am pretty liberal in my thinking and acceptance, and especially in the game of love, you never know where your heart will lead you. That is what I enjoyed about this story; the author led us on a journey of young woman, who not only was going thorough her own self discovery, but her heart was being challenged in what defined acceptable intimacy. Dani readily admits that her past encounters had been meaningless and fleeting; but when Liam enters her life, it is too good to be true he is gorgeous, smart, kind, funny and engaging, all things Dani felt she would never have. Liam proved her wrong; and although she has always seen herself as quirky and plain, can she fully accept Liam? Little things about Liam's secret were revealed along with way, so I was not surprised when it was all revealed, and I felt that the author did a good job in easing the reader into the issues surrounding Liam. I personally would have loved to have more insight into Liam, seeing the story from his perspective; but I enjoyed it all the same. I will definitely read Diving In, as I hope that while getting Liam's sisters story, we will see how Dani and Liam are getting along and how his parents are coping. Thank you Stacey for an insightful and awakening read. I look forward to more of your work.
